«Parametres per a un paisatge»
Capella de Sant Roc, Valls, Tarragona.
1997
In this sculptural performance, I started my intervention by drawing the perimeter of the Chapel (border) in a field about 2 km away from the village. Once the limits of the gallery were marked, I divided the circumscribed space into 40×40 squares. Over the next few days, little by little, (a few each day) I meticulously extracted each landscape square one by one, to reposition them in exactly the same place within the gallery space.
The result of the process is the inversion of the location of the exhibition, a hollow with the shape of the gallery appears in the landscape while in the room, after a meticulous reconstruction, the extracted landscape could be perceived occupying the entire surface of the room.
This work opens up various possibilities for reflection on how human beings appropriate reality,
or on the relationship between art and landscape.
