«Buit-Limit»

2003

8 spheres of 4 meters diameter

Plastic, electric turbines

Buit-limit is an installation in which the space of the exhibition hall is completely occupied by 8 transparent plastic spheres, each four metres in diameter, which are constantly inflated and deflated by turbines like a slow breathing.
When they are completely deflated, the viewer can see the entire exhibition space and can move freely around the discs of the deflated spheres, but when the timer activates the turbines again, the spheres gradually inflate, occupying the free space and forcing visitors to move between the interstices left between the huge spheres, allowing them only to perceive the space through the transparent skin (boundary) of the spheres.
