Echoing Waves
Echoing Waves.
2011.
Steel, mirrors. 4,90 x 5 meters
Zug, Switzerland.
This is a public art installation consisting of a huge mirror measuring 4.90 by 5 metres that covers a ramp used for boarding boats on Lake Zug, so that half of the mirror is submerged in the water. The idea is to reflect the waves breaking on the ramp and to show how light completely alters the transparency of the water depending on the angle of incidence. The mirror becomes a vessel that receives and makes the lake’s waves visible. The changing light transforms our perception of the waves, and in turn, these act as prisms; together with the mirror, they alter the light that reaches us. Furthermore, side mirrors positioned at a 45-degree angle create a vertical reflection, giving the impression of volume.
