It is a spherical polyhedron 2.30 metres in diameter, consisting of 115 camera obscuras mounted on a structure that allows visitors to easily place their upper body and head inside the sphere. The images generated by each camera are projected onto a screen situated 20 cm from each side of the surface, forming a second polyhedron within it. When a person enters the sphere through the opening at the bottom, they are met by a 360-degree kaleidoscope of images all around them. The sensation is that of being in a transparent space.
‘Hyperscope’ draws on the concept of the kaleidoscope to highlight how reality can be perceived from countless different perspectives. The magic of this experience lies in the fact that it is entirely self-contained, uses no digital technology and operates solely on sunlight.
